The Uganda squad set off for South Africa in pursuit of the ICC World Cricket League Div 2. The campaign has been meticulously planned: From having a Zimbabwe (Takashinga) side for a couple of trial games to ensuring team training went on even during the holidays.
Now the task to stay in Div 2 falls squarely on the team’s hands. A training camp for nine days in Cape town which will see the team play four 50-over matches against the Western province XI and Western province academy plus a dose of motivational sessions from former South African opener Gary Kirsten rounds off the preparations.
“We are ready for the challenge and as prepared as we can be,” says skipper Frank Nsubuga. We know what is at stake in Namibia and we are going there to compete,” he adds.
Team Uganda will need to finish among the top four slots in Windhoek, Namibia at the ICC WCL Div 2 tournament from 17th to 24th January 2015.
Hosts Namibia will be joined by Uganda, Kenya, Canada, Netherlands and Nepal to contest for a chance to play at the 2015-2017 ICC Intercontinental Cup and 2015-2017 ICC WCL Championship for the top two sides.
