Uganda Netball Cranes captain, Peace Proscovia has been named among the 3 Africans on the Loughborough Lightning squad for the 2015 Super League Season.
The Ugandan sharp shooter only needed a single training session to impress the top guns at the English based club.
Lightning Head Coach Karen Atkinson straight away hailed Peace and the two other professionals on the side as quoted by Sky Sports;
I am excited by their style of play and how it will enhance the performance of the squad this season. Maweni Phumza (defender) and Peace Proscovia (Attacker) add some much needed height and range to both attack and defence circles, and Maryka Holtzhausen is an intelligent play-maker with quick hands and accuracy of shot.
The trio joined their new club on 1st January 2015 and are set for their maiden match on 1st February 2015 against Yorkshire.
Whereas Peace has been featuring in the Uganda National domestic league, her two new teammates feature prominently in the South African league and were part of the South African team in the Fast 5 Tournament.
Head coach, Atkinson expects the best of performance from her star studded charges with the three new players;
It is important that this squad improves this season, in performances on the court, competitiveness in every game and in its win-loss ratio. I have been impressed with the Loughborough University students and former Lightning players that have maintained their place in the squad. They have definitely taken a step up during pre-season through their application and intensity in training. It was important to bolster this group with new players that have experience, the hunger and competitive drive to play Super League netball and who could offer something different both on and off the court. I am excited to get the season started and the challenge of bringing this group of talented players together.
Peace becomes the first Ugandan to play in the English Premier Netball league and her exposure to sophisticated facilities is expected to open the way for many of Uganda’s undoubted potential.
The former National Insurance Corporation and UCU player, nick named ‘Warid Tower’ for her height will earn a basic salary of 757 Pounds (about U.shs 2,500,000) per month minus training and match allowances.
