Uganda XI 162/10 in 46 overs lost to Western Province Amateur side XI 163/3 in 36 overs by 7 wickets.
A half-century from Brian Masaba was not sufficient to aid the Cricket Cranes in their first build up game at the Vineyard cricket oval in Newlands, South Africa.
Uganda won the toss and chose to bat but got off to a sluggish start that saw them lose the openers Roger Mukasa (10) and Arthur Kyobe (9) for just 19 runs. It was Masaba’s 57 off 91 balls that helped provide some semblance to the score card. Lawrence Sematimba was 18 off 27 but had to retire after being hit by a bouncer just above the neck. He was taken to hospital and later released but is nursing a swollen jaw and back to training.
Captain Frank Nsubuga, 21 off 24 balls, and Jonathan Sebanja’s 32 off 33 helped steer Uganda to 162 all out. Young and Nkemo from the Western Province side did most of the damage taking 5 wickets between them to skittle Uganda in 46 overs.
Uganda used as many as seven bowlers but were powerless to prevent Malan and Ngoepe from powering WPCC to 163/3 in 36 overs. Malan struck 58 off 65 balls, while Ngoepe was unbeaten on 43 off 40 deliveries.
Davis Karashani and Henry Ssenyondo picked up a wicket each for Uganda.
