Nile Special December 2014 Winner: Ndejje University
Ndejje University is the Nile Special month of December 2014 best sports performing team as voted by the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) on Monday at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.
During the sports body’s maiden assembly of the year, the sports reporters voted for the Luweero based institution as the best for the month of December 2014 after overcoming over 40 other Universities to win the 9th Eastern African University Games at UCU in Mukono.
How USPA Members Voted:
In a closely contested encounter, Ndejje University tallied 455 points beating badminton star player, Shamim Bangi (445) and U-19 Cricket (405).
Veteran TV sports reporter, James Mayanja nominated the winning team whilst Nation Media’s Clive Kyazze and Amina Babirye nominated Shamim Bangi and U-19 Cricket Girls team respectively.
In December 2014, Ndejje University became the second Ugandan University (after Makerere) to win back-to-back titles after collecting a massive 34 gold medals to KIU’s 32.
Makerere University is remains the record winners of the Eastern Africa University Games with an enviable record of 6 titles.
USPA President, Sabiti Muwanga ushered the assembly into the new year and urged hard work, dedication and commitment towards the sports development cause.
Muwanga urged;
I welcome all the members into the new year. Let us remain focused and dedicated towards serving sports
At the same assembly, various sports personalities of 2014 were named along with the best teams and nominees for sports personality of the year accolade.
Footballer, Yunus Sentamu, also voted footballer of the year is line for the USPA sports personality of the year with netballer, Peace Proscovia, basketball ace, Claire Lamunu and athlete, Moses Kipsiro.
Crowning Dates:
Ndejje University will be crowned on Thursday, 15th January, 2015 at Imperial Royale Hotel and the USPA gala shall be held at a yet to be named date in April 2015.
