The players of all participating African nations will observe a moment of silence on Saturday when they kick off their Africa Cup of Nations campaign to honor a former top CAF official Slim Aloulou of Tunisia, who died in his home country this week.
According to the Confederation of African Football, the former FIFA executive committee member and one-time banned official Slim Aloulou of Tunisia died on Wednesday.
CAF said Aloulou died in Tunis, three days to the start of the tournament and there will be a moment’s silence for him before all matches on the first four days of the tournament.
CAF did not reveal his age or cause of death, but Tunisian media said Aloulou was 73. The tournament gets underway on Saturday when hosts kick start action in group A against Congo at Estadio de Bata.
