The 2015 Rwabushenyi chess tourney claimed the first victims with the defending champions and reigning 2014 Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) chess players of the year, Arthur Ssegwanyi and Ivy Amoko losing their games.

Ssegwanyi lost to veteran player Geofrey Kanduho whilst the biggest shocker was when teenager, Gloria Nansubuga overcame Amoko. Ssegwanyi remarked to Kawowo Sports saying;

Chess is chess, sometimes you get beaten by the underdog because the swiss system favors no one. I will strive to win my remaining games and hope my opponents falter along the way

Another veteran, Bob BIbasa was also held by the impressive Emma Mwaka.

Harold Wanyama, Elijah Emojong and Julius Ssali maintained perfect scores after beating Solomon Lubega, Richard Buyinza and Kenya’s Moses Andiwoh in the fourth round respectively

One of the interesting games will be in the fifth round when Emojong plays Kanduho as Wanyama takes on Ssali on the top boards.
A total of 8 rounds are to be played in the event that ends on Sunday.

In the ladies category, defending champion Ivy Amoko was surprisingly defeated by teenager Gloria Nansubuga on board one.

Nansubuga remains the only unbeaten female with 4 points after 4 rounds.

In the Under 15 age category, Kyobe John is leading with 4 points after beating Lydia Nakato.

There are several cash prizes and trophies for the top players in the men and women categories.
The juniors will be rewarded with trophies.
