The Uganda Premier League (UPL) is ranked 112th out of 170 nations in the world as at January 2015.

Despite a 7 place leap from the previous year, Uganda remains behind neighbors, Sudan (90), Burundi (106), Kenya (109) and Rwanda (111).

Malawi stands at 115 while Tanzania surprisingly sits at 124th  and Ethiopia at 129th on the ranking.

The ranking is determined annually by the IFFHS since 1991 on the basis of all national (championship, FA Cup) and (inter) continental (confederations & FIFA club competitions) results of the clubs.

This principle has proved to be a very sensitive and an objective indicator

Uganda’s appalling position in the region could boldly be attributed to the end-less crowd violence and woes as regards league sponsorship that have left many clubs cash stripped.

Many players have deserted the local league for greener pastures ‘where bread is served in bulk with better butter’.

For the fifth time in a row since 2010, the Spanish Primera Division retains the first place.

This has been attributed to the extraordinary performance in the year, so in domestic competitions as continental cups, of their four best clubs, Real Madrid CF, Club Atlético de Madrid, FC Barcelona and Sevilla FC.

A massive 250 points separate the Spanish league from the second placed Italian Serie A.

The latter displaced the English Premier League to the third place.

Argentina’s Primera División is the best of South America and lies in the fourth place.

German Bundesliga goes down two places from 2013. German best club, FC Bayern München is second in World Club Rankings, but the second best club is BV Borussia 09 Dortmund (25th placed in WCR) with a poor performance for the last leg in 2014.

France retained their 2013 position (7th place) and kept in the best level leagues.

Portugal displaced the French Ligue 1, with SL Benfica Lisboa great performance.

Argentian league (4th ) is the best in South America, followed by Brazil (6th ), Colombian and Paraguay leagues follow closely in 3rd and 4th respectively.

Various Continents:

Mexican Primera División is the best for CONCACAF area, ahead of Costa Rica and USA.

In Asia, the three best leagues kept their same places as in 2013.

Republic of Korea league comes ahead of Saudi Arabia and Japan in third.

In Africa; Tunisia, Egypt, South Africa, Algeria and Morrocco occupy the first three respective slots;

New Zeland, since Australia was in AFC, is the winner for OFC one more time.
