As the Uganda National under 23 team continues to take shape, head coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ has trimmed the team to 54 ahead of this Weekend’s training sessions and the the test matches against, URA, KCC and Kira Young.

Some of the FUFA Big league stars summoned are; Paidha Black Angels’ striker, Villa Oromchan, The Saints’ right back, Denis Rukundo, Kirinya Jinja s.s’ holding midfielder,  Yunus Kibira and Jinja Municipal’s tricky midfielder, Ambrose Kirya.


Kira Young’s new team captain, Derrick Tekkwo, Uganda Revenue Authority (URA)’s left footed midfielder, Elukana Nkugwa, Express’s Tadeo Lwanga (on reserve list), Lweza goal keeper, Michael Majwega and Vipers Dan Birikwarira are some of the big names missing.

The team’s official media officer, also FUFA Spokesperson, Ahmed Hussein confirmed to Kawowo Sports on Friday;

These (54) are to further fight for the available 30 slots that are expected to enter camp ahead of the away trip that will be held between 20th -22nd February 2015”

Micho has organized three friendly matches for the team that he expects to use as a basis of naming the team.

On Saturday, the team will play KCC and URA before the big league selected cream plays Kira Young on Sunday morning.

It will be purely merit used to select the team. We play URA and KCC on Saturday and these will be mainly super league players and Kira Young on Sunday morning to test many of the BIg league players

Micho outlined his programme.

On form Sadolin Paints Striker, Andrew Basooma, Proline’s Ali Mbogo (fresh from Fanja in Oman), The Saints’ Viane Ssekajugo (scorer of the team’s equalizer against SCVU on Friday), Jinja Municipal’s Richard Wandyaka are some of the other FUFA big league players named.

No goal keeper has been named from any of the FUFA Big league teams since the UPL teams have provided the 4 goalies in camp at the moment.

The URA match will start at 3 pm before the KCC game later in the day. Kira Young hosts the U-23 select FUFA Big league team on Sunday morning at Nelson Mandela Stadium, Namboole.
