Top Athletes head to Jinja for the National Cross Country Championships with Moses Kipsiro, leading top athletes to Jinja for the even that starts Saturday morning at the Jinja Golf Club Course.

Kipsiro, who will be running for Bukwo Athletics Club this season, will be out to defend the title he won last year in a star studded event. However, the anticipated showdown between Kipsiro and Timothy Toroitich, who beat him in Spain last month, will not take place.

Toroitich will be in Nairobi for the Cross Country permit meet, with Women defending champion Linet Toroitich, who has dominated the senior women event.

However, a number of athletes including Thomas Ayeko, a former champion, Daniel Rotich, Ben Siwa, Benjamin Kiplagat among others will also be taking part in the event.

The competition starts at 8am with the junior women (6km) and will be followed by the junior men (8km), senior women (8km) and Senior Men (12km event)

The federation will after name a tentative team that will start preparing for the IAAF World Cross Country Championships that are due next month in China.

Joshua Cheptegei, who was expected to also provide a challenge in the junior men category, is also training in Europe. For the first time, UAF will have names and clubs of athletes on their bibs, with their identification number just below the names.
