The Kawempe region is famous for having bred a galaxy of football stars that have become house hold names in Uganda’s football.

From Charles Matisko, Ausi Kaya, Abubaker Tabula, Ibrahim Sekagya, Sulaiman Tenywa, Sula Ssebunza , Wilson Gayi (RIP) and many others, the region has a proven record.

Budding goal keeper, Steven Bunjo now based in Sweden with 6th division side, Kosta IF Football Club is another on the endless list.

Bunjo started playing football in 1999, aged 10 at Kawempe Youth where he learnt the ‘ABC of the game’ before he switched allegiance to the neighboring Black Burn Rovers (not the English side) for first division football.

I can never forget the roots upon which my career has grown. Since childhood, we have been a family and credit to my academy coaches and team mates for inspiring, teaching me the game basics and helping me love football

Bunjo speaks of his elementary football school lessons in Kawempe.

Born to Susane and Aidah Sendege in Kawempe, 22 years ago, Bunjo hails from a family of 9 (with 7 boys and 2 girls).
