All is set for the Uganda under 23 team that is ready to play their corresponding agements from Mozamique at the 45,000 all seater Maxaquene stadium in the capital, Maputo.
After a long selection process of players totaling to 100, Uganda Kob’s head coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sedrojevic finally picked the final crop of 25 players for the 3 day residential camp at Njeru earlier this week.
From the 25, Micho named the 18 players who left Entebbe International Airport on Thursday morning by Ethiopian Airlines.
Without the KCC and URA summoned players (preparing for CAF duty), the Uganda Kobs team had to bear with the hectic procedure of attaining passports.
In fact two of the players who were part of Micho’s plans – Tadeo Lwanga and striker Julius Malingumu completely missed out on trip because of failure to get passports.
Micho is however sure the charges that traveled will produce the expected results despite being quite inexperienced.
12 of the players had never traveled outside the peripheries of Uganda nor played on any continental championship.
We shall use the experienced players like Farouk (Miya), Gadaffi Kiwanuka and Isma (Watenga) to help these others cope up
Micho told Kawowo Sports as the team departed for Maputo.
Miya has been given the mantle to captain the team while Maputo, a task that he wholesomely accepted.
I am ready to lead my teammates and we expect positive results from the away game
Miya told Kawowo Sports.
The quest for the positive away result starts on Saturday evening with the return leg slated for Kampala in a fort night.
Micho is likely to select the vastly experienced towering goal keeper, Isma Watenga ahead of the first time traveler, Mathias Kigonya in the goal posts.
Bright Stars’ Joseph Nsubuga will mann the right back as Brian Ochwo is virtually uncontested at the left back role.
Lweza strong man and skipper, Ibrahim Kiyemba and Express intelligent center half, Shafik Bakaki at central defence.
Miya, Kasule, Gadafi Kiwanuka and Brian Nkuubi will play the four midfield department (unless otherwise) as Paidha Black Angels’ revelation, Villa Oromochan and Police’s lanky forward, Umar Kasumba leads the attack.
The winner over the two legs will play Egypt at the next level.
