Sprinter, Sam Kakaire easily won the 100M and 200M events at the first Entebbe Athletics club championship held at the Works play ground in Entebbe Municipality on Sunday.
Kakaire, 18 posted a timing of 11:12 over 100 metres beating Bashir Ceaser (11:50) before he returned to clinch the top prize in the 200M event with a time of 23:09 seconds still beating Bashir Ceaser to second place.

This was during the first Entebbe Athletics Club internal championship.
The championships included the 10KM run (men), 5 KM (women), sprints and the relays events.
In the 10 KM race, Sadiq Bahati of Ndejje University won the grueling and competitive race, posting 27:05:37 minutes to beat second placed John Kateregga (27:36:37) and Airforce’s Martin Sikoria (28:00:90).

Namate Primary’s Zainabu Birungi won the woman 5 km race beating Bugonga Boy’s Monica Aneno and Vancian Ndera, who finished in the second and third positions respectively.
Entebbe Mongers Rugby club won the short relay as Entebbe Athletics club and Entebbe Parents came second and third correspondingly.
The purpose of the event was to raise awareness of the Entebbe Athletics club, its usefulness to the local community with a purpose of tapping new talent
Joseph Nsubuga, one of the organizers told Kawowo Sports.
The Chief Guest, Tonny Ssozi (general manager Masavu group of companies) urged the athletes to keep training well ahead of an expectant future to come.
He donated U.shs 500,000 (cash) to the event organizers and pledged further financial assistance to the club.

The mayor of Entebbe Municipality, Vincent De Paul Kayanja also contributed a financial offer of U.shs 70,000 (seventy thousand) towards the organization of the event.
The Entebbe Athletics club was founded in the early 2000’s but has since ceased full operation as majority of the members sought greener pastures.
