One of the finest attackers of the game in the region, Yakan moved to the Turkish giants from Algerian opposition, Algerian side Etoile Sportif Setif (ESS).
Yakan left Algeria after a law barring foreigners taking part in the local league.
While in Turkey,Yakan, who has featured for Ugandan side, Sport-S suffered damaged knee ligaments and was sidelined for a long spell, having featured for the side in just three months.

From Sport-S, Yakan joined Kigali Volleyball club (KVC) in 2005 from where he signed for APR two years later.
In 2011, he joined Algerian side Etoile Sportif Setif (ESS) where he helped the team to the Algerian Super Cup in 2012 and was also named the Most Valuable Player.
Yakan has been a regular for the Rwandan national team since 2006.
