After finishing second in the 2015 Tokyo Marathon, World and Olympic Champion Stephen Kiprotich revealed he is working around the clock to make a bigger impact in World Marathon history.
Kiprotich who finished in 2 hours, 6 minutes and 33 seconds ahead of defending champion Dickson Chumba of Kenya at the feat hinted on the intensive training he is undergoing ahead of other athletics events he is yet to future in ahead.
“Every week I train for 195 kilometres,” Daily Monitor quoted Kiprotich who was making a presentation during the Olympic Values Symposium at GEMS Cambridge International School, Butabika.
“With this kind of training, it means I can run to Europe and return in a just a month,” he joked, with the students from over 15 schools who attended.
The 25-year-old who will now wait till August to defend his gold at the World Athletics Championships at the Bird’s Nest Stadium in Beijing, China as well Olympic gold next year said he is not ready to lose to any accolade to any other competitor.
“I know somebody out there is ready to snatch my gold,” with his two medals in the neck, Kiprotich said.
“But I won’t let that happen. These medals belong to Uganda; they must stay here. They are ours.”
