6th Kyambogo Woodball Open Championship:
Team Winners:
Primary: St Francis Junior School, Buddo (Boys) & Motherwell Junior, Mutungo (Girls)
Secondary: Kyambogo College (Boys) & Mpoma Girls School (Girls)
Institutions/Clubs: Ndejje University A (Men & Women)
The emergence of Mpoma girls school was one of the biggest talking points as the 6th edition of the Kyambogo Woodball open climaxed at the Banda based Institution over the weekend.
During a sunny lit event, on the ‘holy premises’ shared by a congregation of believers, the 2015 edition will go down in history as one of the best attended and highly competitive woodball fetes.
Action drew a mammoth number of participants ranging from primary, secondary to intuitions and clubs.
Mpoma Girls school, virtually an unknown entity in the woodball circles won the secondary girls overall title dethroning 2014’s winner, Kyambogo College.
Mpoma scored a total of 161 strokes getting ahead of Kyambogo by 8 strokes.
The hosts, however, were good enough to retain the men’s title, after fetching 133 strokes to Luzira S.S’ combined 155.
Clubs:
Ndejje University A won both the men and women event in the clubs’ category beating the second best in both categories – Ndejje University B.
In one of the most tightest races in the event, Joan Mukova and Lillian Zawedde tied 56 strokes apiece in the singles’ women event as Denis Sekidde scored 50 strokes to beat Joel Adupa by a difference of 2 strokes.
The Tournament Dark Patches:
Although special credit is reserved for the well laid fairways and the diligent officiating team, time management left a lot to be desired.
Little wonder, the tallying of results was delayed and some of the participants who excelled never returned home with their trophies and other prizes, despite the fact that they were available.
Overall, the 6th edition of the Kyambogo open could be envisaged as a plat form on further expanding the sport to greater heights given the tremendous attendance and level of competition.
The Participants:
Clubs/Institutions: Nkumba University, St. Joseph’s Technical Institute Kisubi, Botladz Woodball Club, Ndejje Woodball Club, Ndejje University and Kyambogo University.
Primary Schools: Motherwell Junior School – Mutungo, Green Acres Junior Academy, St. Kizito P/S – Bugolobi, Murchison Bay P/S, and St. Francis Junior School – Buddo

The next activity on the Uganda Woodball Federation (UWbF) calendar is the Luwero woodball workshop that will take place on Friday, 20th March 2015 at the Nalinya Lwantale girl’s school.
