Former Uganda Cranes international defender, Phillip Obwiny has been appointed as the new Sports Club Villa Technical Director.

According to an official club statement released by the CEO, Ivan Kakembo, Obwiny was supposed to have been introduced to the players, media and fans during the Monday training session.

The former left footed ace, whose conversion rate from the dead ball awed many across the divide, replaces Polly Ouma, whose services were terminated last October.

Currently, Obwiny is part of the Airtel Rising Stars talent scouting team since being appointed among the football ambassadors overseeing the U-17 Airtel Rising Stars football tournament.

He is also part of the FUFA youth system technical team and has been part of the U-23 team that was eliminated by Mozambique in the All African Games qualifiers.

An official club statement released on Monday:

The appointment of Obwinyi, a former Uganda Cranes international takes immediate effect. He will work hand in hand with Coach Sam Ssimbwa and the club executive regarding the technical aspects of the team till the end of the season.

Phillip Obwiny the former SC Villa and Cranes defender currently Kobs-U-23’s national manager was appointed to head S C Villa technical department. He is responsible for all technical matters at Villa park.

Obwiny has previously played for Villa (twice), Express FC, Nalubale FC and URA as well as Uganda Cranes for some years before retiring.

In a related development, Sulait Makumbi has been appointed the team welfare coordinator.

Makumbi was previously serving as the team manager.

Kakembo also communicated a shift of the club’s training sessions from Nakivubo to Villa Park with a change in time.

The club’s training sessions will be conducted in the evening. This is intended to enable players adjust to the time most games are played and for fans to be able to watch their team training after work.
