Morocco have been given the leeway to participate in the 2017 & 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament thanks to victory in their appeal against CAF bans.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) banned the North African nation for refusal to host the 2015 AFCON finals citing Ebola virus as the main reason.

This prompted CAF to land Equatorial Guinea as hosts 52 days prior to the tournament went ahead not only to ban Morocco from two AFCON tourneys but also imposed a hefty fine of $ 1 million to their FA all in the name of losses incurred for abrupt change of hosts.

Morocco then appealed the judgement in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) which has ruled in favour of the Moroccans.

The CAS also reduced the fine to $ 50,000.

After winning the appeal, FRMF vice-president Nourredine Bouchhati said the CAS decision was “excellent news”.

“It puts an end for now to this conflict with Caf, with which we will continue to work with normally,” he told local media as quoted by BBC. “Now we will meet with national coach Baddou Zaki to begin our program of preparations.”

It remains to be seen which action CAF will take next.
