Ibrahim Mugisha, a former Uganda Cranes goalkeeper, now current APR goalkeeping coach in Rwanda has been banned for 8 games following his clash with referee Issa Kagabo after their 1-0 loss to Espoir in the National Football League.

Mugisha also a goalkeeping coach for the Rwanda National football team Amavubi Stars, was involved in the chaos, with assistant coach Vincent Mashami in which the referee was confronted in Rusizi a couple of weeks back.

The Rwanda Football Association (Ferwafa) has since banned both and also fined them. In an official statement published on the Ferwafa website,  Mugisha will also pay a fine of Rwf100,000 while Mashami will part with Rwf50,000.

The five-man Ferwafa disciplinary committee headed by Joseph Kajangwe also allowed the duo only 48 hours to appeal against the Federation’s decision according to Olivier Mulindahabi, the Secretary General.

Mugisha and Mashami did not appeal against the decision according to sources despite vowing that they would do so.

Mugisha was on national team duty over the weekend in Zambia, arrived back in the country on Tuesday afternoon.

He reportedly failed to get enough time to appeal since he had to immediately leave with APR for the return leg tie against Al Ahly in the Caf Champions League on Saturday at the Petro Sport stadium in Cairo.

Mugisha defended himself in an interview with New Times Rwanda saying, “we merely wanted to have a chat with the referee Issa Kagabo to find out why, in his opinion, he sent off Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza but all of a sudden Police showed up and started beating us so I tried to rescue Michel Ndahinduka who was caught up in the scuffle.”

The decision by the federation was based on photographic evidence that both coaches were involved in a scuffle.
