Uganda’s top squash player Michael Kawooya, has kept the game of squash in the lime light even with Uganda Squash Rackets Association failing to implement long term development programmes the Kampala club based player too his exploits to Mombasa, Kenya and returned victorious.

Kawooya, beat Kenya’s Leon Keya 3-1 7-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-6 to win the tournament and also pocket 1.5 million Uganda shillings. Kawooya, was the only Uganda squash player invited for the tournament that was held during the Easter weekend from April 3-5 in Mombasa.

Enroute to the finals Kawooya downed Joseph Dalidi 11-6, 11-4, 11-5 in the semi-finals having earlier disposed Kevin Magotsi 11-8, 11-5, 11-7.

Uganda Squash Rackets Association has failed to run a squash calendar for the last three year’s and the national players like Ian Rukunya Kajubu, Paul Kadoma, Brian Okumu and veteran Lawrence Matovu have been getting support from the Squash fraternity and good will from the association to participate out of the country.
