Entebbe lady golfer Irene Nakalembe, was the best performer for Uganda at the Sanlam South Africa Amateur Stroke Play Championship at the Glendower Golf Club, in South Africa from April 19-21.
Nakalembe scored 93, 84, 78, 39 over par 255 over the tricky par 72 course and in chilly weather in South Africa. Flavia Namakula and Eva Magala returned 55 over par 271 respectively while Uganda’s other representative Gloria Mbaguta, scored 69 over par 285.
South African Ivanna Samu, was the overall winner closing her round with an amazing score of one-over-par 73 to win the 54-hole tournament on four over par, three strokes clear of Western Province’s Cara Gorlei.
Gauteng North’s Carrie Park, the defending champion, finished third on 10 over par with a final round of 75. Uganda lady golfers have been persistent participants at this prestigious tournament, but last year failed to attend due to lack of funds.
