From becoming the first Ugandan badminton player to play at two editions of the Olympic Games (2008 & 2012), Edwin Ekiring was still the first to play at the World Championships in Guangzhou China in 2013.

The reigning African top seed will be playing at his second World Championship this August in Jakarta Indonesia and wants to beat his previous record.

“I want to go a notch higher than what I managed last time,” Ekiring told kawowo sports

“Have been training hard as always and now it’s time to triple my efforts if I am to impress at the games,” he added.

Ekiring defeated Slovakian Jarolim Vicen 2-0 (21-13, 21-16) in in the first round, before losing to Hu Yun of Hong Kong in similar fashion (21-11, 21-16) at the second round stage.

Currently ranked 159th in the world, the Holland based player will be looking at earning points that will improve his ranking but at the same time brighten his chances of playing at the 2016 Rio De Jenairo Olympic Games.
