Uganda Prisons football club, Maroons F.C are the 2014/15 FUFA Big league champions.

The development follows the club’s 1-0 sweet glory over Rwenzori group winners, The Saints F.C at the Phillip Omondi stadium, Lugogo in Kampala.

Enterprising midfielder, Hood Muliki scored a well taken goal on 20 minutes with a wonder chip from close to 25 yards of the exciting duel.

If the sunny evening was joy unlimited to coach Ashaph Mwebaze and his charges, it was emotional for retiring former FIFA referee, Ronnie Kalema, after a diligent 18 years service on the whistling role.

Kalema bid farewell in a game he handled professionally.

By the close of business, Maroons defended gallantly to preserve their lead and were rewarded with the trophy, last won by Lweza F.C last term.

Top Performers:

Jinja Municipal Council’s skipper, Ambrose Kirya was voted the most valuable player (MVP) of the FUFA big league.

The Saints’ lead striker, Alex Kitatta ‘Benzema’ Bukenya was crowned top scorer with his coach, Mark Twinamatisko voted the best coach in a closely contested affair with Maroons head tactician, Mwebaze.

Ahmed Kongola, another Saints’ back room staff was unquestionably nominated best manager.

Vision group’s Shafik Senoga won the best print reporter of the league with Radio Simba’s Moses Nampala taking the radio gong.

The biggest shock on the evening was when Bukedde T.V’s Peter Kanyike, who has confessed having never watched a big league fixture won the best Television reporters’ award.

FUFA competitions department will promote 8 teams from the 8 FUFA regions to replace the demoted sides.

Already Buganda’s Masavu F.C, Lira United F.C (Northern Uganda) are the confirmed sides promoted.

In the earlier match held, Jinja Municipal Council beat Jinja S.S 6-2 to triumph in the Jinja derby.

Left full back, Aggrey Madoi and Richard Wandyaka registered a brace apiece for JMC before Jimmy Jalendo had the other goal.

Yunus Sibira and Musa Magumba scored the only consolation goals for the students’ side.

Promoted Sides:

Maroons, The Saints and  Jinja Municipal Council qualify to gain promotion in the Uganda Premier League for the season 2015/16 to replace Entebbe F.C, Rwenshama and a yet to be identified third side (between Kira Young, Soana, Simba or Lweza).

Airtel Uganda’s Noella Byuma, FUFA president, Moses Magogo and several other FUFA officials were some of the high profile guests who watched the game.

Maroons were handed over a U.shs 2M cheque, gold medals and a glittering trophy.
