KAVC started off the new season with a hard fought victory over Nkumba Navy at Lugogo Arena on Saturday night.
The reigning league champs won in scores of 25-21, 25-15, 21-25, 20-25 and 15-8 in a eye filling action that attracted a big crowd.
Both teams were deadlocked after the fourth set, with no team truly gaining a considerable advantage. With such a swing in score and momentum from the first two sets, no body seemed to know what was going to happen next.
It was back-and-forth set, but the turning point came when KAVC was up 8-6 in the fifth set.
An amazing hit by junior out side hitter, Daudi Okello kept the rally alive and eventually resulted in KAVC winning a point. This boosted KAVC to a 15-8 win and tally in a win column of the new season.
Daudi Okello led the way for KAVC with 20 kills and 12 digs, also starring was former Nkumba player Jensen Chensist with 14 kills.
KAVC looked to be going to cruise to an easy victory in this one after coming from a set down to take the next two sets. Nkumba showed fight and heart, competing to their bitter end.
The plan for KAVC seemed to be controlling dangerous hitter Kurthbert Malinga as he burned KAVC when the two sides last met in last year’s play-offs were KAVC won series 3-1.
Malinga got a great flow on offense with 17 kills.
Good court cover coupled with experince was the recipe of KAVC’s victory.
