7th National Volleyball Junior Championship:

At St Lawrence Cream land campus.

 The 7th Edition of national Junior volleyball championship will be played this weekend (6th – 7th June 2015) at St Lawrence Cream land campus.

 Boys national volleyball junior defending champions, St Mary’s College, Kitende start life without their inspirational player, Daudi Okello who inspired them last year in the national juniors at Kings College Budo.

Daudi completed his senior six and will surely be missed

 In Daudi’s absence, Malinga Curthbert who is current captain of the side, will lead the team in the quest for their 3rd Trophy.

Malinga has had international exposure; he was part of the national team that travelled to Kigali in May.

Gombe SS, is one of the schools that stand in Kitende’s way.

Gombe has recently acquired the services of Coach Hadad from Kinawa Kawempe, one coach with a vivid history of beating Kitende.

In the girls Category, Trust High School will be seeking for the 5th title having won the previous 4 editions, the biggest rivalry is Kinawa Mugogo who are currently the All girls defending champion that was hosted in Iganga SS early in the year.

St Lawrence creamland was the first school to host this prestigious event seven years ago when the current president Sadik had just joined office, this event is one of the new innovations that President Sadik started.

The two-day tournament is to feature over 32 girls teams and 32 boys teams nationwide and is pitied to raise the year’s greatest competition, especially with the revamping of big teams such as Nabisunsa, Nabbingo, St Joseph’s girls Nsambya, Gombe SS, Mwiri College, Ndejje SS, and Namilyango College.

The 2 day tournament is sponsored by Crown beverages Limited under the Mirinda brand.

 Emma Atweta Events and Promotions Manager at Crown Beverages say;

All the participating teams teams that attend will all get refreshments from crown beverages and other give away goodies for the best performing players, he also promised further partnership with other volleyball events including the primary competitions

Categories that will be played are under 21, under 16, under 14 and under 12 years of age.

Expected top teams include Gayaza high School, Bweranyangi, Katikamu, St Joseph’s Nsambya, Nabisunsa, Maryhill mbarara, Mount St Mary’s Namagunga, Katikamu SDA, Hana Mixed,Gombe SS, Iganga SS, Namagabi SS, Kawempe Muslims, Kyeizoba, Global college from Bushenyi among others.
