On June 6, 2015 at Kyamate Grounds in Ntungamo District, the Uganda Cup final between eight time winners SC Villa and KCC FC aborted after fans’ pitch invasion.

It was in the 71st minute with SC Villa leading 1-0 thanks to Erisha Ssekisambu penalty courtesy of a dubious decision by referee Robert Donney which saw the game stop for over five minutes before play resumed.

Moments later, KCC FC’s Hakim Ssenkumba was rightly sent off for a foul on SC Villa’s Abdul Karim Kasule and this irked KCC FC fans and players who stormed off the pitch for they couldn’t handle biased officiation earlier alone.

In fact, KCCA Executive Director Jennifer Musisi had already left with a number of KCC FC fans thanks to Donney’s heroics on the day.

Moments later, the FUFA Executive committee chaired by FUFA President Moses Magogo at Quid Pro Scurry Inn, Ntungamo regretted the incidents and announced that a replay of 90 minutes will be held on Tuesday June 16 at Mandela National stadium, Namboole.

We regret the incident that has happened. The FUFA Executive has the powers to meet in incidences of emergency. The match shall be replayed on Tuesday, 16th June 2015 at Nelson Mandela National Stadium, Namboole. The replay will see the full 90 minutes played.

This happened without consultation of the match referee’s report however bad he was on the day and also without the two involved teams.

Anyway, that is a story for another day.

History repeats itself – SC Villa Vs Express FC replayed:

They year was 2000. A quarter final match in then Kakungulu Cup between SC Villa and Express FC ended prematurely when Hassan ‘Figo’ Mubiru gave the Jogoos a lead on the hour mark.

The goal came minutes after Express FC skipper George Ssemwogerere had been sent off and it’s that incident that sparked off fans in the Kirussia to pelt each other with stones.

Anti-riot police fired tear gas and after calmness returned, Express FC players argued that they couldn’t play again and that teargas had affected them.

For SC Villa, they said all was okay and so the game was suspended.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) announced a replay of 90 minutes at Mandela National stadium, Namboole and I don’t recall which rule they quoted.

Either side agreed and SC Villa won the replay 3-2 thanks to goals from Eugene Ssepuuya and Hakim Magumba before Henry Kakooza scored a late brace in the game.

Ssemwogerere who had been sent off in the previous game also featured at centre back where he partnered current SC Villa Technical Director Phillip Obwiny.

The Blues went on to win the competition that year beating Military Police FC 1-0 in the finals.
