Rwandan national team volleyball coach Paul Bitok wants to transfer Rwanda into a power house on the continent by 2017.

By doing that the team has to participate in a number of ranking competitions like the upcoming Africa Nations Championships.

Unfortunately Rwanda is yet to confirm participation for the July 20-31 in Egypt, Cairo.

“It will be better for us to compete in this competition; we will use these games as preparations of All Africa Games. And it is one of the best competitions which give rankings to international competitions,” Bitok told a www.newtimes.co.rw

Last month Rwanda defeated the like of Kenya, Burundi and Uganda to qualify for the September All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville.

“This is an important tournament; it will help our players to get confidence and prepare well ahead of the All Africa Games,” noted the former Kenya international.

In the event that Rwanda plays at the championship, they will compete against the likes Algeria, Cape Verde, Gambia, Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Congo Brazzaville Egypt, Mozambique, Botswana and Seychelles.

The top two teams will then qualify for the 2015 FIVB Men’s World Cup which will be staged in Japan from 8 – 23 September.

The last time Rwanda took part in the competition was in 2008, and the national side finished in eighth position.
