If there is a team that has won Kenyan fans over at the ongoing African Women Volleyball Championship, that team is Senegal.
Senegal have been nicknamed the ‘Comeback Queens’ by the locals and they won’t be just pushovers once the semifinals commence on later this week.
On three occasions, against Cameroon, Tunisia and Morocco, Senegal have come from two sets to win their matches in breathtaking style.
After going down 25-20 and 25-27 against Cameroon, Senegal started the chase in their opener and eventually won 25-16, 25-20, 15-12.
As if they weren’t done, Senegal faced three time champions Tunisia and probably the favorites to win the title after Kenya before the tournament started.
Senegal went down 25-14, 25-17, but stepped up in the remaining three sets and ran off with them 25-18, 25-20, 15-12 Morocco after losing to Tunisia 3-1(24-26, 25-17, 25-21, 25-13) and Cameroon (25-17, 25-18, 25-20) were playing for their first win against Senegal.
The West African ladies struggled to win the first two sets but eventually lost 25-23, 25-22, Morocco looked like they were on the right track.
With a semifinal lost on the line, they bounced back and beat Morocco under 10 (25-9) to win the third set, then later won the fourth 25-18 and the tie breaker 15-19.
Senegal top Pool B with six points and play Algeria who defeated Mauritius 3-0 (25-15,25-15,26-24) in the semifinal while second played Cameroon will Kenya.
