3rd Place Play off RESULT: Zambia 34-59 Uganda

The Uganda Netball side, She Cranes beat Zambia for the second time at the Netball Diamond Challenge Tourney at the Ugu Sports Centre Margate KZN arena in Durban South Africa.

She Cranes won 59-34 in the third place play off to complete a double over Zambia following a 59-36 victory in a round robin game played earlier in the week.

The world cup bound side lost two games to the world’s 5th rated team in the opener, falling 51-40 in the opener and the tournament hosts and world’s 6th best country, South Africa, 56-39 on Thursday.

In the third place match, Uganda built to a slow start 14-12 in the opening quarter before stretching the lead to 29-20 by half time. By the third quarter, Uganda led 44-27 and marked an incredible finish, winning 59-34.

The Diamond Challenge is a competition featuring Africa’s representatives at the August 7 to 16 Netball World Cup in Sydney, Australia.

South Africa are the 2015 champions after beating Malawi 40-35

The build-up competition features Malawi, Zambia, Uganda and hosts South Africa. The She Cranes will thereafter proceed to Namibia for the Africa Netball Championships in Windhoek from June 27 to July 4.

• 1st Game: Malawi 51-40 Uganda • 2nd Game: South Africa 63-38 Zambia

Wednesday, 17th June 2015:

• 1st Game: Malawi 33-43 South Africa • 2nd Game: Zambia 36-59 Uganda

Thursday, 18th June 2015:

• 1st Game: Malawi 60-34 Zambia • 2nd Game: South Africa 56-39 Uganda

Friday, 19th June 2015:

Third Place Play off: Uganda 59-34 Zambia
