Even though former KCC striker Herman Wasswa is yet to be considered for international duty, Cranes coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojević considers him to be among the best he has seen on the continent.

Micho was reacting to questions during the Fufa weekly press conference, the issues of good players not being given a chance popped up with Wasswa the notable name.

I have not closed the door on any player, especially Herman Wasswa. I have respect for him (Wasswa) and I regard him among the top five finishers have seen in African football for the last fifteen years

Micho said.

Wasswa has donned the national team jersey only once when he came off the bench in the second half of a friendly away to Libya in May 2013.

He was then controversially dropped from the side that was preparing for the 2014 Championship of African Nation qualifier against Tanzania.

Wasswa was named on the travelling 18 players only to be given back his passport and replaced with Ayub Kisalita.

For the return leg, strikers Tony Odour got injured while Patrick Edema went to Europe; still Wasswa was overlooked as Express’ Frank Kalanda at the time was summonsed.

Some coaches will look at the best player; we are looking at the best team and consistent. He has been on the list of the best KCC players like Hakim Ssekumba, the same like Joseph Ochaya and other players, but they didn’t get the chance to jell with the group

Micho added.

In Wasswa’s maiden topflight league (2010/2011) with Masaka, he scored 12 goals in 15 appearances of the second half of the season.

The 22-year old crossed SC Villa were he netted 20 league goals and two Uganda Cup goals between 2011 and 2013.

In the 2012/2013 season Wasswa won the golden boot as he guided KCCA to their ninth league title.

He struggled with injuries in the 2013/2014 season as he only managed nine goals.

He has also netted 14 Uganda Cup goals, two for Villa and 12 for KCC. On the 12, seven came in the 2014 season that earned him the golden boot which he shared with URA’s Feni Ali last season.

In 2014, his three goals helped KCC lift the Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar while he managed two in this year’s edition.

Wasswa is a free agent after his contract with KCC expired and the 10-time league champions didn’t renew it
