Uganda will start the quest for qualification to the Rugby Africa Tier 1A on Sunday with a game against Ivory Coast in the Tier 1B tournament at Kyandodo Rugby Grounds.
The team’s captain Brian Odongo has promised a 100 percent show from their first game throughout the qualifiers that will also have the Cranes play against Botswana and Mauritius.
We need to take the first game as a final, the reason we are going to give 100 percent in all the games we are going to play
Odongo said from the team’s camp at Silver Springs Hotel in Bugoloobi.
Odong made his national team debut seven years ago as a 20-year old, he is probably one of the most experienced players on the team and he knows what it will take if the Cranes are to get results.
We have to put our foot on the accelerator from start to finish. We have to dictate the pace of the game. We played them (Ivory Coast) last year and we were unlucky to lose after conceding from the final play
Uganda lost also lost to Senegal and against the hosts Tunisia, Odongo and company would be playing Africa Rugby Tier 1C if it wasn’t for the continental body to increase the numbers of teams which play in Tier 1B.
At this same stage in 2013, Kenya humiliated Cranes 52-11 in Madagascar in their opening fixture, last year in Tunisia, Ivory Coast edged Uganda 19-22 in their first game.
