Kenyan international Janet Wanja missed all her team’s games in the FIVB Grand Prix Group Three (Pool Q) in Algeria after she suffered a stomach upset on the teams arrival in Algeria from Mexico.

The Kenya Pipeline setter has dismissed reports of her collapsing in her room due to a mysterious illness.

I was shocked to read that I collapsed, that report is unfounded and untrue. Yes I have been unwell but to report that I collapsed is an exaggeration. We are all perplexed by the reports

Wanja told michezoafrika.co on Sunday before adding.

With the frequent traveling, I picked up a bad stomach infection but I thank God for his healing power and everyone around me here in Algeria for their care. I have also received overwhelming messages from our fans back home and I am humbled by your love and care. My team mates and officials here have been God sent and I must also thank our embassy here in Algeria for their concern and care

Kenya has been forced to negotiate win against Mexico (20–25, 17–25, 22–25), Australia (25–20, 25–16, 25–15) and Algeria (25–20, 15–25, 25–23, 13–25, 13–15) with a sole setter in Jane to qualify for the finals due in AIS Arena, Canberra, Australia.

Team head coach David Lung’aho also cleared the air over the misleading report and he hopes Wanja will be back at feet in no time as the team heads to Australia.

I want to categorically deny what’s being reported on social media that Janet Wanja collapsed in her room, this is far from the truth. Wanja woke up unwell and it’s OK for players to pray with her in her room but claiming she collapsed was blowing it out of proportion. Janet Wanja has recovered and was in training today

After qualifying for the semifinals, Kenya will play Australia on July 11 and if the go past the hosts. A win over Australia will earn Kenya promotion for Group two but also book them a final slot against either Colombia or Peru in the finals
