Uganda Rugby Cranes continued their stellar performance in Tier 1B with a 35-11 win over Mauritius on day 2 of the Africa Rugby tournament at Legends Rugby Grounds on Wednesday.

Puis Ogena’s try opened the scores following an interception in Mauritius half to touch at the right corner of the pitch.

Rugby Cranes’ Kevin Makmot converted the extras to hand the hosts a 07-00 lead at the sun drenched arena.

Cranes continued the onslaught and it was James Odong who smartly found his path through the Mauritius back line to score Uganda’s second.

Makmot kicked through again to extend the score to 14-00 but the visitors pulled one back shortly after with a penalty by Damian De Froberville.

Uganda further closed down Mauritius with back Micheal Wokorach, James Odong, Lawrence Ssebuliba and Gerald Ssewankambo exchanging brilliantly.

But the group however got held up at the try line for a 14-03 half time score.

Second half resumed with Uganda piling pressure again and wing Lawrence Ssebuliba crushed over after a brilliant run along the left lane.

Scrum-half Makmot immediately went off for Davis Kiwalabye after converting for a 21-03 score.

Mauritius replied later on with a penalty by De Froberville again. Several bad line outs for the hosts cost Cranes as Mauritius haunted again with their first try by Nairc Marc.

Damian did not convert this time round and Uganda seemed to have been buoyed up by replacements James Ijiongat, Cyrus Wathum and John Wandicho.

Cranes touched courtesy of Lawrence Ssebuliba thanks to another scintillating run past the Mauritius men extending the scores to 26-11 in favor of Uganda.

Ijiongat kicked through and the excited crowds could not hold back as they further witnessed Scott Oluoch delivering another try for Uganda.

Moments after Ijiongat’s conversion that hit the upright to go through, replacement Joseph Aredo grabbed the opportunity to also make the day’s headlines with a great run, but unfortunately offloaded poorly to Justin Kimono squandering Cranes last.

Uganda play Botswana next on Saturday at 4:30 pm seeking maximum points to crown the tournament as leaders, right in pole position to earn promotion to tier 1A.
