KMKM (Zanzibar) Vs Gor Mahia (Kenya) – National stadium, Dar es Salaam @ 4pm
After winning their group openers, Kenya Premier League winners Gor Mahia and their Zanzibar counterparts KMKM face off on Monday afternoon with a spot in the quarter final beckoning.
Gor Mahia beat tournament favourites Yanga on Saturday 2-1 while KMKM edged Djibouti’s Telecom 1-0 at Karume.
In the aftermath of the victory, Gor Mahia coach Frank Nuttal said that beating Yanga doesn’t mean disrespect for other teams.
“Of course they are the biggest team in the group but we have respect for teams in the group,” said Nuttal.
Before kickoff of the tournament, K’Ogalo set a target of quarter finals and despite the win over Yanga, captain Musa Muhammad said the target hasn’t changed yet.
“It’s still our target,” he told Kawowo Sports. “Maybe from there, we shall see how it goes,” he added.
Nuttal is expected to recall midfield gem Collins ‘Gattuso’ into the starting eleven after he missed the win over Yanga due to injury while Victor Ali Abondo is also expected to start ahead of Innocent Wafula.
Danger man Michael Olunga and Man of the Match against Yanga Meddie Kagere are expected to lead the hunt for goals with Godfrey Walusimbi and Aucho Khalid also in the mix in the midfield.
Maximum points for either side will see them book an early spot in the quarters.
In the other game on the day, Kwesi Appiah’s Al Khartoum 03 takes on Djibouti’s Telecom in what will be an early kick off on the day.
