Isaac Sserunkuma’s solitary goal for KCC FC against Malakia secured the Lugogo side a quarterfinal ticket at the 2015 CECAFA Kagame Cup. The win was also KCC’s second after they defeated Adama City 1-0 on Wednesday. Kawowo Sports’ Clive Kyazze was at Tanzania National Stadium and here he does rate each player.

Emmanuel Opio – 5: He kept a clean sheet which was the most important thing, but his game reading was a little far from the Opio we know.

Denis Okot – 4: He was solid defensively, but didn’t really give the team match in the other half. All I can remember was one cross early in the first half.

Joseph Ochaya – 5: Looks like the left back position suits Ochaya well, he was a much improved player from KCC’s first game against Azam. Enjoyed himself going forward and he wasn’t troubled that much by Malakia.

Hassan Wasswa Dazo – 5: Tried a lot not to get himself in trouble and he succeeded, he had good movement and always listened to his goalkeeper and neighbor Mpuuga.

Martin Mpuuga – 4: He missed a free header early in the first half and got booked for a very clumsy tackle, he tried to make sure his defense keeps shape.

Ivan Ntege – 6: The engine of the team covered a lot of ground just to make sure Mpuuga and Nsubuga are not troubled, he was also involved in a few offensive moves.

Tom Masiko – 3: He is yet to impose himself in that KCC midfield but also as a captain he didn’t offer much. No wonder he was brought off at half time.

Hakim Senkumba – 5: He provided that ball that led to the only goal of the game; he should have got a brace himself if scoring goals was in his DNA

Shaban Kondo – 3: He made a few runs that troubled Malakia, but mostly he was just part of the eleven players that started

Isaac Sserunkuma – 4: If it wasn’t for his goal on his CECAFA debut, the former Express man would have passed for someone who had lost something in the National Stadium turf. He was slow for a striker, but a good finish it was.

Michael Birungi – 2: As always, Birungi did a lot of running but his first and last touch let the team down. He got yellow carded for a clumsy offense when he kicked Malakia’s Lubari Zeriba on the ground. Only Birungi can tell what was running through his mind.

Substitutes

Nsubuga Dan Ssekabembe – 1: He came on for Birungi perhaps to improve the right wing, Ssekabembe did the opposite, always needed a second touch to control the ball and with yards of space, he didn’t know what to do and when.

Owen Kasule – 2: He came on for Masiko at half time, but he had limited touches for 45 minutes. Kasule’s impact wasn’t felt.

Timothy Awani -2: He had five minutes to start from where his predecessor Wasswa stopped in central defense and he did just that.
