Azam FC confirmed their top spot in group C thanks to a 5-0 thrashing of Adama City from Ethiopia on Saturday at national stadium, Dar es Salaam.
Finishing at the summit implies that the former Tanzania league champions will now face a second placed side from group A which will either be Gor Mahia, Khartoum or Yanga but Coach Stewart Hall though not afraid of any opponent, wouldn’t fancy facing the latter at the quarter final stage.
“When you play against Yanga, you play against 40,000 fans and officials. However, if you are to win something big, you have to beat the giants,” he said.
Yanga; currently 3rd in pool A face off with Kwesi Appiah’s Khartoum on Sunday in what will be the last group stages action with a chance of finishing in either of the top three spots.
Meanwhile, speaking on the 5-0 victory, Hall hailed his charges for handling the game in a professional manner and bragged that the game was won fifteen minutes after kick off although the Ethiopian side had two men sent off later in the game.
“I think my players handled everything professional. We won the game in the first fifteen minutes and when they went a man down, we still managed the situation well.”
Azam made five changes in the starting lineup and the Briton believes all the players who featured on the day did a good job.
“We made five changes again today and so we had fresh legs. John Bocco is a very important player to us but he didn’t play today and so was Raymond Domayo. Then withdrew Pascal Wawa after recess in a bid to give him some rest and the other players still did well.”
