2nd Vipers Invitational Tournament:

  • 1st Match: The Saints F.C 0-0 Maroons F.C
  • 2nd Match: Vipers S.C 0-1 Lweza F.C

The second edition of the Vipers pre-season invitational tournament successfully kicked off with two games played at the St Marys’ play ground, Kitende off Kampala – Entebbe Highway on Sunday.

The opening fixture between the two Uganda Premier League new sides, The Saints and Maroons Football Clubs ended in a goal-less stalemate.

In the subsequent fixture, new Lweza recruit, Hassan Kikoyo grabbed the headlines for the right reasons as he scored the winner deep in the second half of the game against the tournament hosts, Vipers Sports Club.

After the two sides missing several goal scoring opportunities, it reached the point of winner takes it all and Kikoyo’s 82nd minute goal was indeed the match winner to earn the Kajjansi based outfit three points and an extra point owing to the tournament by-laws.

The pre-season tournament is being played for the second time running.

The tournament spokesman, Abdu Ssemugenyi hints of the purpose of the event;

This tournament is meant to help teams prepare for the coming season. A goal scored earns the team an extra point to encourage teams score the goals, which is the true beauty of the game.

Games resume on Wednesday, August 5.
