The Phillip Omondi stadium at Lugogo will not be a place for the faint hearted come Sunday evening on 9th August 2015 as the first ever national under 17 football league comes to a close.
- Two teams that highly believe in a passing philosophy will be locking horns in the finals.
Synergy junior team from Masaka will play Kampala Junior Team for the most coveted prize at stake – trophy, gold medals and a sum of prize money that has not yet been disclosed by the organizers.
In the first of the semi final play off, Johnson Musinguzi struck early for Synergy Junior team against Super Cubs for the victory.
The second semi final play off, full of life and goals witnessed Kampala Junior Team win 3-2 on post match penalties after a 2 all draw in normal time.
Hamza Muzaale gave St Mary’s the lead in the 12th minute before Allan Tubusweke equalized from an acute angle on the left with 5 minutes to the end of the second half.
KJT missed taking the lead when midfielder, Ashraf Mugume blasted his penalty wide of goal after Ismail Bugembe had fouled Noel Nasasira in the forbidden area.
After the break, Faizo Ssekyanzi restored the lead for St Mary’s but Tebusweke replied in similar fashion to force the match into penalties.
The usually unpredictable shoot outs saw Under 17 national left back, Alex Komakech, Noel Nasasasira and Peter Magambo successfully convert for KJT as Paul Willa and Alex Sserunkuma missed their attempts.
Swaibu Katende and Arafah Mulindwa scored the only two kicks from the penalty spot for St Marys but Steven Ssengonzi, Jonathan Muteesa and Eric Ssenjobe missed.
The two camps are already geared up for the match with confidence oozing from either sides.
Synergy’s Brian Ssenyondo believes it is their chance to wrap the league with a great performance;
Hopefully the boys stick to the plan out laid for the game. We have the trophy in our reach.
His Counterpart at Kampala Junior side, Jamah Magasi contends he will play an offensive game.
The final presents no second chance. We shall attack from start to finish.
Synergy will look to the magic of skipper, Johnson Musinguzi, Pius Kaggwa and the free dribbling ace, Osacr Agaba for inspiration.
A star studded Kampala Junior Team boosts three of the players who featured in the Uganda 17 team that played in the CAF U-17 tournament, Frank ‘Zagga’ Tumwesigye, Ashraf Mugume and left back skipper, Alex Komakech.
Towering anchorman, Peter Magambo is another great player for the side defensively and in offense.
The league was played for the first time this year.
