Uganda’s boxing team is seeking a slot in the 2016 Olympics games in Rio de Janiero and the outfit is now in Casablanca, Morocco upbeat, ahead of the Olympic qualifiers beginning today to 23rd August.
Head coach Dick Katende is in charge of the contingent that left on Sunday and the team is oozing confidence as they all look forward to making the Rio bound list.
Eight boxers and two coaches were sent to North Africa and according to Micheal Ssekabembe who spoke to Xinhua, the team has been “training so hard for this event.”
The team comprises Faisal Juma (light fly weight), Rogers Ssemitala (bantam weight), Abdul Nasser (light weight), Ali Sserunkuma (light welter weight), Nasser Bukenya (welter weight), Kennedy Katende (light weight) , Willy Kyakonye (heavy weight) and Ssekabembe (Super heavyweight) who promised that they will “work hard to win medals and also qualify for Olympics.”
The squad will also have another opportunity to showcase their skills at an international stage at the 2015 All Africa Games due next month in Congo Brazzaville.
