Uganda’s tennis legend John Oduke’s son Simon Ayella, is following in his father’s footsteps as he register a shock at the Kenya Open tennis championship upsetting seed 7 Zambia’s Kombe Mabo 6-3, 6-4 at the Nairobi Club on Tuesday.
Ayella, was one of the unseeded players who caused an upset at the Kenya Open with other being Petty Andanda, from Kenya upsetting seed 4 Tanzania’s Omar Abdallah 6-0, 4-6, 6-4 in the biggest shocks at the lucrative tennis tournament held in Kenya.
Incidently Simon Ayella, is an all rounder for Charity Trust Fund Cricket Club at Lugogo cricket oval.
The overall winner of this tournament will walk away with Ksh 90,000 shillings last year’s winner is US based Kenya top tennis star Ismail Changawa, Uganda’s other tennis player taking part is David Oringa, who is the country’s number two while Uganda’s top seed and 2013 winner Duncan Mugabe skipped the tournament as he is pursuing ranking points at the ITF/Futures circuit in Egypt.
