From zero to hero – Kick boxer Moses Golola described himself as fitting the bill at the commencement of his Sports Academy project worth Ugx. 3bn.
To be located in Lugoba, Kawempe few kilometers from the capital Kampala, the academy will be the first of its kind in Uganda catering not all for kick boxing but other disciplines too.
Inspiration
“It’s something I have thought of for a long time,” he told Kawowo Sports. “A lot of children right from school and those without the privileged are talented but not many get an opportunity to be polished,” he added.
The motor mouthed kick boxer adds that there should be a system that produces sports men and they shouldn’t suffice by accident.
“Nobody knew me some time back but am now famous. I am self-made but not many can try to make themselves. It’s the reason I feel they should get a chance and the academy will go a long way in this.”
A variety of sports disciplines
Golola says it will cater for different sports disciplines and not just kickboxing. “I was once a boxer but am now a kick boxer. My goal is to promote all kind of sports right from kick boxing, boxing, taekwondo, karate, athletics and perhaps football in future among others.”
Project worth Ugx Shs 3 Billion
For starters, it’s Golola Moses and a few friends funding the project but the self-proclaimed no joking subject calls upon the public, institutions and government to give a helping hand.
“It’s not something I can accomplish without support from the society. It’s at this moment that I pledge for support from all kinds of people, private companies, public institutions, people in the diaspora and the government.”
10 acres of land is the target
“The target is to set this project on ten acres of land with class rooms and hostels as well but we have to start from somewhere,” he said.
Golola hopes that by 2019, maybe Uganda will have a few graduates from the academy that may represent Uganda internationally and bring medals.
