West Nile Region: Paidha Black Angels (Zombo) 0-4 Adjumani Girls (Adjumani)
Northern Region: St James (Lira) 2-0 Gulu Girls (Gulu)
Boys:
Northern Region: St Mauritz (Gulu) 1-2 Destiny Sports Academy (Lira)
West-Nile Region: Adjumani Boys
Successful action from the Northern and West Nile zonal championship of the 5th Edition of ‘Its Now ARS’ Airtel Rising Stars U-17 boys and girls football event concluded the national regional qualifiers on Sunday, 13th September 2015 at the Pece Stadium in Gulu Municipality.
These qualifiers had followed those earlier held in six other regions across the country.
The two day event of the Northern and West Nile regions was played at Pece Stadium and Gulu Public School play grounds, watched by a capacity crowd of the soccer mad-fans of the regions.
Adjumani boys won without dropping any sweat as no other team turned up from the West Nile region.
In the girls’ event, Adjumani, inspired by skipper Filda Amadrio and Florence Drania won the final game in convincing fashion 4-0.
Amadrio, a left footed gem notched a brace that was repeated by partner in crime, Drania to complete a double over the same side having won 1-0 a day before.
On Saturday, Rutensia Yangi had scored the all important strike against the run of play for Adjumani girls.
Adjumani head coach, Swaibu Waku was so delighted as he spoke to Kawowo Sports after the victory;
We have been preparing well, this is success well worked out for. I am so happy for my team. We shall train for the nationals that come in October
In the Northern region (girls’ category), St James from Lira beat Gulu Girls to win the female gender whilst Destiny Sports Academy, another Lira based side overcame, favorites, St Mauritz from Gulu 2-1 in the boy’s finals.
Allan Okello notched the winner for Destiny Sports Academy after Nasuru Mpaya’s opener had been cancelled at the brink of half time.
Gulu Municipality mayor, George Labeja congratulated all the respective winners with a call to the budding footballers to desist from all forms of drug abuse for prospective careers.
The West Nile and Northern regions action marked the end of the countrywide regional qualifiers that have witnessed action through every part of the country.
Individual awards:
Most Valuable Player (MVP):
Sharon Abu of Gulu Girls won the MVP accolade from the Northern region and Adjumani’s Filda Amadrio smiled home with the MVP reward for the West Nile region.
Allan Okello of Destiny Sports Academy took the Most Valuable Player award for the best male in the Northern region.
Best Goal Keeper:
Jackline Ato of St James was awarded with the best goal keeper in the girls’ event of the Northern region as Concy Kakoyo of Adjumani took the best goal keeper in the West Nile region.
Coaches:
Patrick Bongo, head coach at Lira’s Destiny Sports Academy was named as the best coach in the entire Northern region as Swaibu Waku took the best tactician in the West Nile region.
Top Scorer:
Oscar Komakech of St Mauritiz from Gulu was the boys’ top score from Northern region with 3 goals.
Joyce Amuge (King James) and Filda Amadrio of Adjumani each had two goals to top score the Northern and West Nile regions respectively.
The national finals will take place in Mbarara on 31st October 2015.
