Uganda now boasts of two medals in the 2015 All Africa Games in Congo after boxer Kennedy Katende made to the semifinals of the heavy weight category where he lost to an Algerian on Saturday.

Katende lost to Benchelba Abdelhafid, a two-time Olympics quarterfinalist, settling for Bronze as he joined badminton star Edwin Ekiring’s who also won bronze after losing in the semifinals of the men’s singles.

Benchelba suppressed Katende’s offensive nature, frustrating his onslaughts to claim victory in the highly billed fight.

“I am happy that out of the seven boxers who came for these Games I have managed to get a medal. I fought against an experienced opponent,” Katende told Xinhua.

Katende’s journey to a podium finish meant Uganda move to 20th position with Mali with two bronze medals as Egypt proceeded with their dominance on the medal table with 130 medals, South Africa in second.
