For the third time on bounce, Gor Mahia FC have won the Kenya Premier League.
K’Ogalo as they famously known achieved the feat following their 1-0 victory over Sony Sugars FC in a league game played at Nyayo stadium on Wednesday evening.
The only goal of the game came in the 45th minute through Innocent Wafula with Ugandan international Godfrey Walusimbi bagging an assist.
The victory moved Frank Nutall’s side to 66 points, fifteen better than second placed Ulinzi Stars who have only twelve points left to play four.
The 2015 CECAFA Kagame Cup finalists who remain unbeaten last won three titles in a row in 1985. They had won the title in 1983 and 1984.
Their 2015 KPL squad has Ugandans Godfrey Walusimbi and Aucho Khalid who played a great role in the team’s road to the championship.
At 66 points, Gor Mahia also breaks the record for most points since the introduction of the 16 team league format and with more 12 to play for, they will sure extend the record as they aim to end the campaign unbeaten.
Khalid Aucho injury scare
Towards the end of the game, Cranes midfielder Khalid Aucho was stretchered off the pitch wincing in pain after he fell awkwardly on his back.
