It’s three wins and a draw for Vipers in the Uganda Premier League outings so far but Vipers head coach Edward Golola sees a tough season ahead.
Vipers have defeated The Saints (3-0), Jinja Municipal Council Hippos (1-0) and SCVU (1-2) but dropped their first points against Bul FC at Kakindu in a game Golola’s side struggled in the final third.
It’s going to be a very competitive season. Not because we have dropped just two points so far but the kind of opposition in this year’s league is tougher than last season. Our challengers have reinforced their respective squads and they look motivated
Golola told the club’s website viperssc.com
Last season football fans were treated to a three horse race, with Vipers, KCCA and Villa all gunning for the title.
KCCA got off the chasing the park as the sides neared the home stretch, Golola predicts a five horse race this term. “In KCC, URA, Villa and Express FC, I see genuine challengers capable of standing in our way to the league title,” he said.
Golola confessed that the only way Vipers will able to keep themselves up there is by approaching every game like it’s the last.
A winning run like the one our club had last season when we went 21 matches unbeaten could definitely keep us into contention right up to the end
Vipers currently occupy second place on the 16 team log with 10 points just like table leaders KCCA and the two are only separated by a solitary goal.
