37 swimmers from Kampala and elsewhere attended the first Altona Swim Club Sports Community Day at Ache Havana swimming pool at Centenary Park on Saturday.

A total of 37 swimmers took part in the first event that is organised by Altona Swim Club with majority of the swimmers learning the sport of swimming for the first time.

“We have had a good turn up for this Sports Community Day and we never thought that people in the community and society would be eager to learn how to swim,” Erick Kisero, of Altona swim club said. “It’s the first of it’s kind that we are holding and we believe the next Day will be bigger and the turn will be larger than this.”

The sports community day is meant to teach the public the importance of swimming, but at the same time work as a bridge to society to learn how to swim.

The Centenary park  based swim club is one of the leading clubs in the country and has featured in several national swimming competitions and galas organised by Uganda Swimming Federation.

The next community day activity will be held on October 31st at the same venue.
