2015 CECAFA Challenge Cup:

21st November – 6th December 2015

The organizing committee of the Council for East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) Senior Challenge Cup has confirmed that this year’s tournament will kick off on 21st November 2015 in Ethiopia.

CECAFA long serving Secretary General, Nicholas Musonye confirmed the development;

Ethiopia is making all the necessary preparations for the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup championship. We expect to kick off on 21st November 2015.

Last year, the tournament was not held after the would be hosts, Ethiopia pulled out at the 11th hour citing logistical encumbrances among other factors.

Kenya are the defending champions having won the 2013 edition on home turf. Uganda are the tournament record winners with 13 titles under the belt.

There are 11 CECAFA founding member countries that include Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, Somalia, Rwanda, Djibouti, Zanzibar, Sudan, Eritrea and Ethiopia.

The secretariat expects the confirmation of FIFA’s newest member, South Sudan on board to make 12 countries with a possibility of a guest nation still a reality.
