2015 University Football League:

Quarter-Finals (2nd Leg): Nkumba University 1-1 Ndejje University

Aggregate Score (Ndejje Wins 3-2)

Second Quarter finals: (Thurs, 8th October 2015)

Makerere University Vs KIU (Luzira playground) – 2 p.m

Despite finishing the game with ten players, Ndejje University progressed to their first ever University football league semi-finals at the expense of Nkumba on Wednesday.

This was after a one all draw for the two institutions during the return leg of the first quarter final played at Nkumba University play ground before a big lively crowd.

Towering forward Steven Ayo opened the scoring for the visitors with a well drilled low drive in the 8th minute after Nkumba team skipper, Douglas Muganga easily lost possession.

Ayo was well stationed to bury the ball home past the fast advancing Nkumba goal keeper, Joseph Yiga for the opener and silence the big home crowd.

Half time read 1-0 in favour of the Luwero based boys.

Nkumba returned the better side, creating a variety of chances as the second half progressed.

In the 60th minute, Ndejje goalie, Hannington Ssebwalunyo faulted to release the ball in the mandatory 60 seconds, an act that prompted FUFA referee, Fred Mpima Nyumirizza to award an indirect freekick inside the 18 yard area.

Former Kampala Kids League (KKL) and Aurum Roses football club star, Martin Sseruwagi perfectly curled the ball in the up right for the equalizer to give the match a deserved tense finish.

Ndejje were then reduced to 10 men when Erisa Lutaaya was sent to the coolers for unsporting conduct.

The red card accorded Nkumba the numerical advantage, easily visible for each and every ball they won but goal scoring remained the biggest un-doing.

Moneygram money of the match, Ayo single handedly ran rings around the Nkumba backline of Allan ‘Back’ Katwe, substitute Allan Zirimenya and Douglas Muganga.

By the last blow of the referee’s whistle, Nkumba players lay crestfallen as Ndejje obviously celebrated wildly.

Ndejje thus becomes the first university to progress to the last four stage with the three other quarter finals yet to come.

Makerere University entertain KIU at the Luzira play grounds on Thursday,8th October 2015.

We created so many chances but failed to convert. It is sad the better side on the day has lost

Winning at our home yard provided the impetus. I am happy for progressing to the semi-finals for the first time
