From waking up every morning to worries on whether she will ever get help from anyone in this world, She Cranes star Elizabeth Atonet has now got a lifeline after National Council of Sports (NCS) covered her bills for the arthroscopic surgery.
The sports body in charge of all federations in Uganda offered to cater for her hospital bills as they offered a cheque worth Shs4.7m for the player to meet the surgeons at at CoRSU Rehabilitation Hospital, Kisubi, Entebbe Road.
Atonet damaged her knee in June and limped out of the 20-man She Cranes squad which was training for the recently concluded Netball World Cup in Australia.
Since then, the 25-year-old had embarked on a drive to gather any money she could so she could undergo surgery on torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee that sidelined her off the national team that traveled to the World Cup for the first time since 1979 two months ago.
The help eventually comes in four months after she sustained her injury and the pain of missing the international showpiece that was living in her knee will soon be history.
“I am now a bit relieved and delighted; I am looking forward to the day of the surgery but I’ll still need more financial support during the long healing process,” Atonet told Daily Monitor.
