Muna Singh Jnr put on one of the drives of his promising career to claim his first win in the Samfuel Kitwe rally held on the weekend.
The event was the seventh round in the Zambia rally series with two drivers going neck and neck for the 2015 Zambian rally title.
Singh Jr and teammate Jassy Singh started the rally level on points (100) in the standings.
But it’s the 20-year-old Singh Jr that saw off the challenge of teammate Jassy Singh and former Africa Rally Champion Mohammed Essa in what was a tightly contested affair.
In his newly acquired Subaru R4, Singh Jnr started day two with a 6 seconds lead over Essa.
He maintained his pace to win the rally by 16 seconds. Jassy Singh settled for second.
Singh Jnr shared with kawowo sports highlights of his Samfuel rally.
“It was a great rally, we had 50% chances of finishing, but preparation was key,” he said.
“The competition was stiff, until most of the top guys fell out then it was pretty easy for me to take victory.
“The car really performed well, only suffered oil leak from the turbo.
“So I had to fix it in the last stages, besides that it is a perfect ride,” said Singh Jnr.
The win extended Singh’s stronghold on the championship; 11 points ahead of Jassy with one event to go.
