2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier (2nd Round):
- 1st Leg: Thursday, 12th November 2015: Togo vs. Uganda – Kegue Stadium, Lome
- 2nd Leg: Sunday, 15th November 2015: Uganda vs. Togo – Nelson Mandela National Stadium, Kampala
Upon earning a recall to the Uganda Cranes team preparing for the back-to-back 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier matches against Togo next week, crafty winger Moses Oloya has openly expressed the willingness to fight for a slot on the team.
Oloya, one of the four players (others are Ivan Bukenya, Ceaser Okhuti and Geofrey Kizito) summoned to the team after a long time out revealed to Kawowo Sports in an exclusive interview that he is ready to toil out for the good of the team.
In his typical free-style mentality, the fast paced winger remarked;
I will work my socks out to deliver the goods. We (with teammates) have a target to see the Cranes progress.
On the aspect of competition for slots on the team, Oloya does not mince words as he highlights;
Football is like that. We are all one unit. Each of us has a role to play and besides, I am ready to compete favourably for a slot on the team, which is good in terms of delivery.
Oloya massively contributed to his side, Becamex Binh Duong Football club which recently won three titles in Vietnam after toppling every other side for the previous season 2014/15.
The Cranes head coach, Milutin Sredojevic has always wished he has more than two players in the same department and this is the exact scenario he is experiencing with Rio Ave’s William Luwagga Kizito in great form in the Portuguese top flight league.
Oloya’s other direct competitors could be the on-fire Farouk Miya and the crafty KCCA midfielder, Muzamiru Mutyaba.
Other department with varying competition is the goal keeping area where El Merriekh’s Salim Jamal, St George’s Robert Odongkara and Vipers’ James Alitho are in contention alongside Mamelodi SunDowns’ Dennis Onyango.
The left back role has three contenders in Isaac Muleme (SC Villa), Joseph Ochaya (KCCA) and the usual suspect, Geofrey ‘Jajja Walu’ Walusimbi of Gor Mahia.
The inclusion of Kaizer Chief’s composed back Ivan Bukenya among the defenders means Shafiki Bakaki, Murushid Jjuuko and Isaac Isinde have to burn their calories out in competition for a slot on the team.
Uganda travels away to Lome next Wednesday on chartered flight for the second round of the 2018 World Cup first leg qualifier.
The return leg shall be hosted at the Nelson Mandela national stadium, Namboole on Sunday, 15th November 2015.
